What are the most polluting sectors in our reality? What emissions "in chief" to each of the inhabitants of 67 municipalities of the province?
During the conference "From Genoa to the Kyoto target 20-20-20" held in the council hall of the Palazzo Doria Spinola was submitted emissions inventory gas emissions of the province.
tool can provide a general cognitive state of the carbon emissions of our territory and of all the municipalities that fall into it, in an objective way to evaluate our contribution to this global problem but also the effectiveness of actions taken locally to combat climate change.
The inventory has been certified by RINA with standard UNI ISO 14064, because it is an "official" sources to assess the state of the art and impact of all actions taken to reduce emissions. Genoa is the second province in Italy, after Siena, to adopt of this instrument.
From a technical point of view the inventory is designed to quantify the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) caused by human activity, and in particular due to final consumption of energy sources, and has been calculated in reference to the year 2005 (the reference point called the EU climate package). The inventory data tell a very particular local context: the total emission of total CO2 in the province of Genoa amounted to 5,863,147 tonnes of CO2, the data takes on particular significance when one considers that the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere is approximately 10 times the amount of solid waste products in the same territory.
emissions per capita - although lower than the average situation in the Italian and European Union - are still relevant: 6.6 t / year in the province, 7.6 and 7.5 in Italy in Europe.
The sector to which we owe the highest CO2 emissions is that of civil aviation (which includes substantially the homes, offices etc..) Which accounts for 45% of total emissions.
The remaining emissions are divided almost equally between industry (28%) and services (26%, mainly consisting of transport).
"The inventory was prepared in order to be used in relation to the policies of the Province of Genoa and other local governments in the fight against climate change by reducing CO2 emissions - said Alessandro Repetto, president of the province of Genoa - In particular, the inventory will be used to support actively the municipalities that joined the Covenant of Mayors, the European Union project European involving local governments in achieving the objectives of the "20-20-20", an initiative by the Province of Genoa and support structures. "
"The project today that the Province is an important milestone for the sustainability of the territory. The photograph on time of CO2 emissions, achieved through the compilation of the inventory constitutes the basis for determining the activities required to minimize environmental impact town by town, "said Ugo Salerno, CEO of RINA" this tool will also set targets for improvement in the medium term in line with the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol.
